Product 0030
Alright Quirks, we all know it’s coming, we all know when its coming. And with Apple gearing up to manufacturer a million a month we need to get ready to capitalize. My idea is to get out the gates with a funky, fresh, and functional Apple Tablet Case. My initial ideas are: • It should include some type of protective cover, to cover the screen when the tablet is not in use. The tablet has a beautiful screen, a ... more

Key Design Elements:
- Case is designed to have the iPad remain in the case at all times.
- Case lid when opened to between 210 and 260 degrees turns into a stand
- Users can place case-ensconced iPad on their laps, desks, airplane backseat trays, belly to view the screen without having to hold the iPad in their hands
- iPad Case: Hard case with a clear lid.
- Clear lid allows for the beautiful iPad cover to be exposed and also addresses need to ‘show off’ this new gadget
- Lid could be made as a solar panel so that case helps charge iPad
- Straps are attached to the case with built in puffy storage pouches on either side of the case
- Optional iPhone case could be offered which is either built into the strap or wraps around the straps
- Straps could be angled so as to turn sling bag into a messenger bad depending on user preference
Key Requirements:
- Case should help eliminate the need to physically hold the iPad at an angle to view the screen
- Light Weight/Strong/Durable
- Case has clear lid to show iPad inside: Helps address need to ‘show-off’
- Storage space to carry cords/accessories
- Solar charging ability
- Several early buyers of the iPad could be existing iPhone owners who may need storage option to carry their iPhones
Combine "Soft Pad" idea by the quirky staff, with Tirshath's flip-style design (taking some notes from Matthew Fleming), including my suggestion- addition of a split rubber lip to hide cords and provide extra protection. And I'm with Dan and Ryan about having a colorful option- but I suggest manufacture in a series of metallic colors- aluminum/silver, pewter, rose gold, gold, bismuth (a blue-black metallic) etc.
Create a standard case - sleek, secure and sexy with the basic requirements every iPad user would be after, such as a stand, USB option, strap and earphone holder.
Have an add-on option for your most required function:
1. Traveler: Travel document pocket, lightweight additional power/battery, camera sleeve - the basic carry on luggage that you'd use when flying or trvalling long distances
2. Domestic traveler - similar options to 1, but altered for day to day use. A larger multi purpose pocket, room for keys, wallet, iPhone etc.
3. Business traveler: Same as 1 ut with document sleeve for papers or even a separate laptop for business use while on the road.
4. Day to day - camera, keys, wallet, utility pocket for general use etc..
Basically I don't think that an one case can meet the needs of most iPad users, but a case that can be be added to in order to meet the functional requirements of each individual user will be compelling. The 'lifestyle' designs can be added to and altered over time and through user feedback. End result - a different case, happy customers and lots of sales (and add on sales!)
Apologies for no visual.
These will be hot items to steal
anything that we can do to deter easy theft, would be a selling point
I am no industrial designer, but here are some ideas of features that could be built into the straps and case designs of others

Please excuse my bad Photoshopping, but I hope this gives an idea of the case.
The idea is to create a zip case, like the binders/portfolios you sometimes see. The difference here is that it would have a double headed zip, like a sport bag. This lets you unzip it in such a way that it opens up over the top, to act as a stand in portrait mode, but it also lets you open it the side if desired so that it can act as a stand in landscape mode also! The design would certainly be cleaner & better than my concept here.
I tried to incorporate the lap idea I keep pushing in comments, as well as the stand option. I also incorporated a storage compartment, optional shoulder strap attachment, and removable plate for docking the iPad. I believe the storage tube (also used to swivel the cover) functions to give the iPad a more book like feel if being held in one hand as well.
Possible materials: Hard shell (shiny) with areas of silicone (removable plate, ends of side tube)
Ok sorry there is no picture.
I would have the edges encircled with soft rubber for shcok absorbtion. The screen would be protected by a solid aluminum plate that flips down and under the device on a hinge and becomes a stand or continues to rotate flat to the back side and allows you to lay it flat.
My concept is a simple shell that fits over the iPad like a second skin, very similar to the shell cases you see for iPhones(see precedents in attached image). There is a lid that fits as a top AND a bottom. It fits over the top when carrying it or sliding it into your bag, and snaps onto the bottom when using the iPad. There is an optional wrist strap for that extra "anti-drop" security.
This concept is for the no-frills minimalist who would open up the Notes App on his/her iPad instead of pulling out a pen and paper.
The Round ’A’ Bout IPad case was inspired by Mark McDonnell who has the Motion Wheel Pro product currently in the Product 31 evaluation. In reviewing the available designs, what struck me was how they were just rectangles surrounding rectangles and thought the other competition will probably be the same.
I wanted something different that would stand out and hopefully be a worthy Quirky design or at least be something more to inspire others. As Mathew Fleming has pointed out in his product video, Quirky probably won’t beat the competition on price, reputation or even timing, but killer features and I think a killer design as well. Sorry, I’m not a CAD guy, but hope the drawings are understandable.
The Round ’A’ Bout IPad case:
1) Places the IPad in the center rectangle holder with a flip down cover. A sliding roll top cover that could disappear inside the case would be cooler, but may be too complicated or costly.
2) Four lockable handles with hand grips surround the rectangle holder. The handles can move and lock independently and fold completely flat on the back of the case. The independent locking handles can be configured in a number of different positions depending on the needs of the user.
3) A large storage compartment on the back allows for storage of Ear buds, cables and such.
