quirky is a social product development company. Your product ideas come in, our community works on them, we sell your product worldwide, and 30¢ of every dollar brought in gets distributed amongst you and the product's influencers.

quirky is for all of us who find ourselves sitting at home (or at work, or the bus stop, on the can...whathaveyou) with lots of ideas. You know, ”wouldn’t it be cool if...” or “if only that had a...” but without the money or know-how to get that thingamajig out of your head and onto shelves for wider consumption. No worries, friend, welcome aboard - quirky makes it possible.

Now here’s how it all goes down:

Every week, users can post an idea for a product to quirky for $99. quirky’s community rates and influences each of the ideas, ultimately selecting one product per week to move into development. Now, even if your product doesn’t get selected, that $99 wasn’t spent in vain - we’ll toss you some market data about your idea: who liked it, who didn’t, and why (demographically speaking)...aka male snowboarders aged 18-24 didn’t get it, but NYC females aged 25-29 were seriously raising overpriced cocktails to it. At the very least, $99 bought you some research which will let you go out and build the thing on your own.

As we said, the key here is that 30¢ of every dollar your product makes (we're talkin' top line revenue - for you MBA folk) goes back to the community. “Community” in this case covers both the ideator and the people helping to make it happen. So if you don’t have your own killer product idea, you can still participate and influence other people’s ideas and get cash along the way.

During development, quirky’s community weighs in on all aspects of the product itself...name, logo, color, packaging, the whole nine. And check it, we know the road to success - we’re the guys behind mophie and kluster, we’ve been doing this whole community influence thing for years.

Finally, when everything's good to go, there's but one more test: a quirky product won't go into tooling and full production until enough people commit to buying the product. Through our unique pre-sale site (http://quirky.com/products), we sell upcoming products at a discount. Once we have enough committed buyers, the true believers' credit cards are charged, wheels turn, manufacturing plants and truckers named Bubba get involved and, oh...it’s on. Sit back, cash in...and start working on the next big thing.

  • You have a product idea. It’s good - you know it’s good. You’ve thought about it for ages now...people at dinner parties are always into it...you see ads for the Snuggie and think, “seriously? but my idea is so much better than that.” But who the hell knows how - or has the time and money - to get that product out of your head and onto shelves? Well, uh, we do. Go ahead, drop the $99 and post your [non-electronic product] idea on quirky...

  • Our quirky community takes it from there. They’re just waiting to see what you got, to really ponder it, to let you know their thoughts on ways to tweak your product, and in general, to determine if it’s precisely the product they’ve been waiting for (even if they didn’t know they were waiting for it). If you get them on your side, they’ll vote your product in, make you that week’s winner, and it’s onto...

  • This is where the professionals get involved. Sure, soap on a rope was a genius idea...but someone had to engineer where the rope would go--er, you know what we mean. So turn over the reigns to our top guns of industrial design and mechanical engineering. They take your idea, create a 2D sketch of it, kick that baby into 3D, and come up with a shelf-ready photorealistic image, complete with packaging...

  • And the whole time, the community’s still got your back. Now’s when it gets really fun...and productive. Afterall, your idea is already in the works. Everyone gets to weigh in on everything - your product’s design, name, packaging, color scheme, kitchen sink, etc. We’re all in this together, with one very clear main goal...

  • Yep, sell it. Virtually at first - based on your product’s price point, we’ll determine just how many units we need to pre-sell before we can really go the distance. Our community’s been on your side all along, surely they want what you’ve created with their help...and then they’ll tell 10 people...and they’ll tell 10 people...and they’ll...

  • Once your number’s up...it’s on. Plants will manufacture, trucks will be loaded, truckers will pop Vivarin, products will be delivered, and eventually...you’ll find yourself walking down the street one day, minding your own business, possibly thinking up your next great scheme, when...seemingly out of nowhere...you spot someone rocking the product *you* (ahem - with a little quirky help) invented.

  • Oh, right, the money...you want to know about the money. Fair enough. The deal is this: 30¢ of every dollar your product earns (yep, top line revenue, for the MBA minds out there) goes to the quirky community; a friendly split between you, the ideator, and your band of merry influencers. Of course you’ll be the top earner - we’re not Marxists here - but it’s only right that your virtual support staff should be compensated for their help and belief in your product. These funds will be available within a few minutes of our daily report, and accessible via check or direct deposit to your account.
